Levallois Tecnique

Punta di lancia da Piana di Sterpeto (Eneolitico) The Levallois technique is a very innovative flint knapping technique in which a block of rough flint is prepared (core), it is given a regular shape - oval, rectangular or triangular - in order to obtain objects of predetermined shapes and sized (flakes, points or blades). The discovery of the Levallois technique has been attributed to an “archaic” form of Homo Sapiens, between 300,000 and 200,000 years ago. It was then widely used by groups of Homo sapiens neanderthaliensis living between 120,000 and 35,000 years.
