Ponte Grosso

Ponte Grosso Following the old Flaminian Road from Pontedazzo to Cagli, at the foot of the impervious Burano Ravine, we find the Ponte Grosso, practically in perfect condition, one of the best conserved and most consistent bridges of the via Flaminia. A powerful structure with two 7 meter wide arches which rest on a low row of springers with a central piling about 5.40 meters wide. It is built in local pietra corniola squared only on the exterior face while the other parts are constituted of unfinished dry-stone blocks in different thicknesses. The characteristics of the bridge, place it in a series of reconstruction works on the Flaminian promoted by Augustus.
